America Sanctions a State Based Faith                                    July 1, 2004

Should the administration decide which congregations
are suitable for participation in American democracy?

Dear Nephew,

The New York Times said today “The Bush-Cheney campaign has laid out a brisk schedule for legions of Christian supporters to help enlist "conservative churches" and their members, including sending church directories to the campaign."

Well, Nephew, so much for the separation of Church and State, at least for the fundamentalists. I hope people in more inclusive faiths don’t mind suddenly being second class citizens. Already they’re not fit to participate in our democratic government. Bush & Co. aren’t gathering their church directories for support.

My advice to you, Nephew, is to get or feign religion quick, the more fundamental and holier-than-thou the better. When Bush gets re-elected and its legislative payback time, it’s going to be hell-to-pay for anyone whose faith and behavior don’t pass fundamentalist scrutiny.

Yours Truly :-)
Great Aunt Maggie Pye
