Divisions As Paramount                                                             May 29, 2004

 Dear Nephew,

I read in the Boston paper that Bush & Co. have done it again. Iraq’s new prime minister will be Iyad Alawi, apparently rubber-stamped into office by the Iraqi Governing Council, a Bush & Co. committee.

Nephew, if I were a borderline insurgent  Alawi's resume’d tip the scales. He’s been living in the West – read not one of us. He wasn’t chosen by the UN – read no legitimacy. He’s real close to the US – read American pawn. And he’s worked with the CIA – read collaborator.

Now, Nephew, all this probably misses the mark. But Bush & Co’s screwed the Iraqi’s over so much already, I’ll bet lots of them figure all these negatives hit the bulls eye.

And not only has Bush added more fuel to the fire in Iraq, he's further upset our allies and the UN to boot by springing this Alawi on them out of practically nowhere.

As I see it, Nephew, the only good that might come out of this gaff is rapport between Bush and Arafat. At times, both seem terrifyingly alike, they never miss an opportunity to create divisions rather than peace.

Yours Truly,
Great Aunt Maggie Pye
