Since tables are the foundation of a database, the introductory course spends the morning and part of the afternoon detailing table design and table strategies. The remainder of the session is devoted to an overview of queries, forms and reports.

Relationships: 1 to 1, 1 to Many, Many to Many.
Creating relationships.
Primary and Foreign Keys.
Multiple-Field Primary Keys.
Referential Integrity (Parents and Orphans).
Problems and solutions to setting referential integrity between tables with preexisting data.
Overview of first, second, and third normal forms.
Built in features for sorting and filtering data in tables.
Words of caution on importing spreadhseet data.
Examples of good spreadhseet design that make bad database design.

Queries

Creating simple queries.
Using queries to sort.
Using simple criteria.

Forms and Reports

Using Microsoft Access wizards to create forms and reports.
